Here it comes again. Venezuela-Colombia relationships enter a limbo which gets them closer to hell, this time because of the INTERPOL report claiming the absence of manipulation on the laptops seized at the camp where FARC’ second top chief aka Raúl Reyes was killed in March.
Hugo Chávez is right on this issue, excluding of course his adjectives. What happened today was indeed a show. Besides if the INTERPOL report is reliable, because it seems it is indeed, there is no reason to set up such a platform to make it public, knowing the effects it would cause and, furthermore, to prepare the climate by leaking information from the laptops’ content to the mass media, going as far as let know, likewise, excerpts from the INTERPOL’s report itself, since the day before.
What are looking for? It is not to show the collusion of FARC with Venezuelan and Ecuadorian governments. If it were so, the evidence should be treated as such, holding back them, following the clues which can be deduced from them, until reaching the criminals, destroying all their infrastructure, giving rise to a victory they would only recover from after several years.
But it was not done that way. Since the beginning they preferred to make a fuss of it and telling, little by little, "pieces" of truths, with a clear purpose, to put Chávez and Rafael Correa against the ropes in order to alleviate the continental condemnation to Colombia for its violation to international law. But now, when the relations could be patched, why this new show, seeking to create a serious controversy and a political and economic catastrophe?
Domestic support, without a doubt. What a wicked way to escape from the questioning to the legitimacy of his second term. With the alarms ringing because of the Supreme Court’s decision to believe former congresswoman Yidis Medina, which leaves without any legitimacy such second term, and the ruling coalition in the Congress morally and materially devastated, with some 30 lawmakers in jail and another similar number being probed, Uribe takes out the foreign enemy card, no matter the consequences.
It is clear that a furious attack from Chávez, as it happened months before, will make all political forces, the guilds, the common people, surround the President and putting the parapolitics scandal aside. Issues such as the political reform, the failure of the Justice and Peace Law, the questioned Congress, the mocking to the victims who are denied truth, justice, and reparation, are put aside too.
The same way Chávez practises that within his stronghold and Correa within his, Uribe does the same thing in this frayed Colombia, seeking foreign enemies in order to armour his domestic power. Shameful show. A period on history where our peoples needed statesmen to ensure their future, was only able to give simple rulers who, as it is known, are so small as the limited horizon of their hatreds and ambitions.
Let’s think: if as they say, reading all the information from the laptops can take a thousand years, 100 pages a day, were they so lucky that with a first look they found the exact documents where the denounced collusion is clearly detailed?
