Echoes from the 4 February march

Never before in Colombian history people had demonstrated this way against something in particular. On 4 February they did against an armed group that, after its degradation, became a criminal business, setting itself up not only as a disgrace for the country, but also for humanity. But besides the contempt itself, several teachings and consequences remain for the future.

No more FARC

On Feb. 4th, San Francisco and San José, two big cities of California, put their voices together to shout loudly: “NO MORE FARC”. Hundreds of Colombians and their friends from other countries expressed their rejection to violence, kidnapping and the terrorism of FARC.

According to Carolina Uribe de la Espriella, organizer of the march against FARC in Bilbao, northern Spain, 275 to 300 people (”even though we looked as if we were 1,000!”) concentrated there to reject that guerrilla group’s terrorist actions.

In Manizales, central Colombia, a white stream with yellow, blue and red faint stripes travelling across over ten kilometres with a funeral pace despite the smiling and festive faces, a great tide of noisy silence advancing with a single slogan: No more war. No more kidnappings. No more FARC.

Colombians in Japan and Australia march against FARC

Around 60 Colombians, dealing with the cold weather, rallied against FARC in Tokyo. Dozens of others demonstrated in Sydney and Brisbane on Sunday.
