Well, Colombia is his ranch. So, if he moves the fence of his hacienda to steal the land of his poor campesino neighbors and then threatens then with death, why cannot he use the Colombian privatized army to move the borders of his privatized Colombia with the sovereign countries of Ecuador and Venezuela?

I go beyond what Jara said about Uribe and FARC, this war is very convenient for both. For Uribe because it keeps his CIA salary, and keeps receiving the moneys of the plan Colombia that also go to his pockets and those of his mafia. It is also convenient for the US because give them the excuse they need to intervene in our country, to steal its energy and other economic resources, and to keep it as a platform from which they can threat other South American countries. The war is convenient for both because with all these interventions it helps maintain and consolidate an unjust status quo that favors only 5 families in Colombia.

Uribe is a genocidal guy sustained in power by the monies of Plan Colombia, which have been used to bribe politicians into supporting his corrupt regime and the amendments to the constitution to keep him forever in power, and also in waging a war of extermination against Colombian campesinos with the only purpose of taking their land and giving it to the US corporations.

One of the missions of Uribe (Pablo Escobar’s cousin) is to transfer the lucrative narcotics trade into American hands. Americans need to get hold of this trade as it could help revive the US economy.

As to why a drug dealer can be a president of Colombia while his cousin was persecuted to death rests on the pro-American stands and “ideologies” of Uribe. Escobar on the other hand openly expressed his anti-Americanism and it was for this reason and not for the drug trade why he was killed.

With all my heart, I really wish that Obama happened to be a good man and a good president. That’s what we need for a better world. However, I am not so optimistic, because I also believe like Gore Vidal that it’ll take 100 years to recover from the catastrophic presidency of George Bush.
