Marcha en Miami

At 10 am we started to gather in front of the Colombian Consulate in Miami. Quite shyly at the beginning, people arrived with some banners, T-shirts, and flags… and I don’t remember what moment I saw myself surrounded by a lot of people united toward an only Hymn, an only sentiment, an only reason. To contempt violent actions, kidnappings, and illegal armed groups. People vibrated with an only aim, your skin just chilled at seeing so many people from your country so far away, singing songs which remind us we are so Colombian and how our country’s suffering hurts us.

Marcha en Bilbao

According to Carolina Uribe de la Espriella, organizer of the march against FARC in Bilbao, northern Spain, 275 to 300 people ("even though we looked as if we were 1,000!") concentrated there to reject that guerrilla group’s terrorist actions. The demonstration took place Monday night at Teatro Arriaga square.

A stream of hope spills through the arteries and overflows the heart of the city. A white stream with yellow, blue and red faint stripes travelling across over ten kilometres with a funeral pace despite the smiling and festive faces. Walking in silence almost all the time, with very few people yelling slogans quite different from those the city is used accustomed to hear from the retrograde, third-worlder leftists.

Even though huge snow storms fell Saturday night and Sunday early morning on most of the Japanese archipelago, Colombian residents in Tokyo attended the march against FARC.

Low temperatures did not prevented around 60 Colombians, according to Spanish news agency EFE, to rally against terrorism and the rebels’ actions. Demonstrators wore white clothes and carried banners and Colombian flags. They walked quietly a few kilometres from Tōgō Gensui Kinen Kōen to Saint Ignatius church in Chiyoda-ku, where a mass in Spanish, praying for peace in Colombia, was held. According Juan Pablo Campos, coordinator of the march against FARC in Tokyo, there were not problems or incidents.

On the other hand, the Colombian colony in Australia, one of the most important in the diaspora, also rallied on Sunday afternoon. In Sydney, demonstrators met at Martin Place, where they had to deal with the rain, whereas in Brisbane, City Botanic Gardens were the meeting point.
